The Two Ways of Life, by Oscar Rejlander

My photo 1 students just finished a project where they had to create constructed photographs, and it was interesting to see several of them create images by using a manual technique of photo collage when they are used to using a computer for this type of work.  Waaaay before computers, Oscar Rejlander was exploring the limits of photography through combining multiple negatives into one print, such as in “The Two Ways of Life”, made in 1857 and shown above.
